Hon. Susan Snow, (Ret.) retired in 2000 after serving for nearly nineteen years as an Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. Most of her judicial service was in the Domestic Relations Division, including the Court’s pilot Unified Family Court in Bridgeview, Illinois. Judge Snow made her reputation in the court system as one who was constantly involved in attempts to improve the system. Her concern for families in transition led Judge Snow to develop and initiate special administrative services such as FOCUS on Children, the parent education program for the Circuit Court of Cook County, and the Unified Family Court Model in which she served. During her tenure on the bench, Judge Snow served as President of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and chaired the education committee of the Domestic Relations Division, providing monthly educational seminars for the judges in the division. Judge Snow extended her interest in education by becoming actively involved in educational programs for judges across Illinois and throughout the country. With respect to her concerns regarding issues of attorney impairment, Judge Snow has acted as a trained intervener for the Illinois Lawyers Assistance Program. Since her retirement, Judge Snow has taken a creative direction in her activities. In addition to establishing herself as a fine artist, she continues the writing and reflection on the courts’ interface with families which characterized her judicial years.
