What does it take to get Licensed as an Illinois Broker?
- Complete 75 hours of IDFPR-approved pre-licensing education.
- 60-credit-hour Broker Topics course
- 15-credit-hour Broker Applied interactive course
- Pass the school's final exam (minimum score of 75%)
- Schedule and pass the license exam.
Register for and take the state licensing exam with PSI, which administers the exam on behalf of the IDFPR. - Choose a sponsoring broker.
To be licensed, Illinois brokers are required to work under the supervision and sponsorship of a managing broker. Meet with potential brokerages to identify which is the best fit for you. - Complete the IDFPR online application.

What is required to become a real estate broker in IL?
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Complete a 75-credit-hour state-approved pre-license program
- Pass the state license exam
- Be of good moral character
Can I complete all of the coursework online via self-study?
The State does not permit a complete self-study program. Most of the pre-license coursework may be completed via self-study, but all applicants must complete a 15-Hour Broker Pre-License Applied program in an interactive (In-person class or live webinar) format.
